Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who has been hospitalized at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi for about four months, is reported to have regained consciousness.
National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi, who visited the ailing legislator last evening, said that Ssegirinya can now speak, eat, walk, and recognize visitors—a significant improvement from his condition when he was admitted on December 23rd, 2023.
“I passed by Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi to check on our comrade, Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad, where he is undergoing treatment. I was pleased to find that his health has greatly improved and he is rapidly responding to medication. He is no longer in intensive care, he walks around by himself, and his appetite is better than it was a few weeks ago. Let’s continue praying for and supporting him. By the grace of God, he will get well soon,” said Bobi Wine.
These developments come a day after Ssegirinya’s Personal Assistant, Alex Luwemba, disclosed that his boss was about to return to Uganda.
Since being released from Luzira prison about two years ago, Ssegirinya has been in and out of the hospital battling lung diseases, hypertension, skin cancer, among other complications.
In mid-last year, he was rushed to Germany before being transferred to Amsterdam UMC Hospital in the Netherlands. This was after his situation worsened beyond management in Uganda.
He was discharged in September from Amsterdam UMC hospital, where he underwent treatment for different ailments. However, a few months later, his health condition deteriorated, and he was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he is still undergoing treatment.
