The continental football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF), has granted approval to the local football governing body, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), for a Test Match at Namboole Stadium as the Final Phase of reopening the newly renovated stadium.
The revelation was made this morning by Rogers Byamukama, the Excom Member in charge of Marketing, TV & Sponsorships – FUFA, who stated that testing the stadium is one of CAF’s requirements before granting permission to host international games.
“Today, I am extremely happy to announce that CAF has granted us the right to hold a test match in Namboole. A test match is the last step of the renovation of the stadium.”
FUFA has selected two Uganda Premier League (UPL) fixtures for this significant milestone, and both fixtures will be played on the same day, May 1, 2024.
Title contenders BUL and Vipers SC will face off at 4 pm, while record champions SC Villa, who are also still in the title race, will play against KCCA FC at 7pm.
The entrance fees for both games are Shs10k (General) and Shs50k for VIP.
The renovation works at Namboole started in February 2022, and last week, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Kidemuka, the project engineer under the UPDF Engineering Brigade, said that the works were at 82%.
He revealed that Namboole is now a smart stadium, as fans will be accessing it with digitally purchased tickets.
