The Deputy Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Forces, Brig. Gen. Stephen Kiggundu, has passed away. This has been confirmed by the Defence Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye.
In a statement issued by Kulayigye, dated Sunday, March 31, 2024, Brig. Gen. Kiggundu breathed his last on Sunday at his official residence in Entebbe.
“Brig. Gen. Kiggundu was well all day until the evening of today when he met his death in his bathroom,” reads the statement in part.
It is reported that the air force chief was electrocuted in a freak accident while taking a shower on Sunday evening.
Kiggundu, who previously served as the commander of the Soroti Air Force wing, was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2022 and appointed deputy chief of the UPDF Air Force.
In the same reshuffle, Maj. Gen. Charles Okidi was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed the Air Force chief.
