The Police Crime Intelligence and Flying Squad units are hunting for five unidentified armed thugs who allegedly robbed over Shs30 million cash from a Chinese textile shop at Royal Plaza on Luwum Street in Kampala City.
Reports indicate that last weekend, five thugs armed with machetes and wearing masks entered the shop, situated on Royal Plaza’s third floor, around 7:00 pm before closing it with three Chinese nationals and one Ugandan employee inside.
The thugs demanded money under threat of violence, which was given to them, and then they fled from the scene.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the robbery, disclosing that the stolen items included Shs30 million, $100, and the passports of the Chinese business owners. He stated that the police have already recovered bags and burglary tools.
“We shall use these materials to see if we can get any DNA on those materials as the hunt continues. But people should stop keeping such a huge sum of money in businesses and houses that may attract such incidents,” Owoyesigyire said.
