Police in Gulu have arrested a 13-year-old pupil at Divine Care Nursery and Primary School following the alleged strangling of her 14-year-old classmate. The incident happened on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Angwee Pakita, reportedly engaged in a dispute with her peer, Tracy Nyakit, aged 14, while they were on their way to fetch water at a nearby well. Both pupils are refugees from South Sudan residing in Uganda.
According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the altercation escalated when Angwee Pakita allegedly attacked Tracy Nyakit, resulting in her being strangled and subsequently pushed forcefully, causing her to collapse.
She was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Her act of strangling her colleague and not releasing her neck was exceptionally brutal. We continue to urge school administrators to have enough school watchers to prevent such acts of violence,” said Enanga.
