Former Vice President Gilbert Bukenya’s appointment as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Environment and Sanitation has stirred varied reactions from the public.
On Wednesday, the State House issued a statement disclosing Bukenya’s appointment.
“The Presidential Press Unit (PPU) wishes to inform the general public that H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. (Rtd.) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed H.E. Prof. Gilbert Bukenya as the Senior Presidential Advisor on Environment and Sanitation,” the statement read.
The 75-year-old former VP has been living a quiet life since Edward Ssekandi replaced him as VP in 2011, following about eight years in office.
However, the latest development has attracted mixed reactions.
@Uthuman remarked, “More like an environment and sanitation prefect.”
@Byaruhanga Alex expressed, “Eh, finally he gets some bread. God is good all the time.”
“This must be a curtain-raiser to a looming cabinet reshuffle. A well-conceived and constructed political ambiguity that should prepare some people like the sitting VP that they can be relegated and/or redeployed to an advisory role,” commented Kanyerezi Shafic.
Sentivan said, “And the fresh graduates think they will get jobs in Uganda, yet the appointing authority keeps on hiring the same old people.”
“Don’t be surprised to find Prof Gilbert Bukenya around Bandali Rise this weekend,” comically stated AnzoClassic.
Bukenya is known for enjoying life, as he often throws parties at his home and attends entertainment events.
