Police in Adjumani have launched a serious manhunt for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Acaye Moses, a police officer attached to Alebtong District as the OC station, for fatally shooting Omona Simon, a 24-year-old peasant from Lulayi village. The incident occurred on February 20 at around 11 a.m.
According to the police, the officer left his workstation with a pistol on the fateful day to follow up on investigations into the murder of his brother, Opio Emmanuel, by a mob on February 10.
“He was part of a team that responded to Apaa trading centre after one of the suspects was sighted,” said the police.
It is reported that upon reaching the trading centre, he drew his pistol and shot at Opio, who was then rushed to a nearby clinic where he succumbed to his injuries.
The officer is said to have handed over the pistol for safe custody at Lacor Hospital Police Post on February 24 before disappearing.
The police have now initiated a serious manhunt for him.
