Makerere University’s 74th graduation ceremony officially begins today, January 29, and will continue until February 2, 2024.
A total of 12,913 students will graduate from the 74th convocation, comprising 6,816 females and 6,097 males. Among these, 11,016 are undergraduate students, 24 are undergraduate diploma students, 156 are postgraduate diploma students, 1,585 are graduate students, and 132 are PhD students.
The number of PhD students has increased from 102 last year to 132 this year, marking the largest number of PhD students since the university’s establishment in 1922.
On this first day of the long-awaited occasion, a total of 1,476 students from the College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS), and School of Law will receive their respective academic awards.
Out of these, 1,011 are undergraduates, 404 are graduate students, 24 are undergraduate diploma students, and 36 are PhD students.
On Tuesday, January 30, students from the College of Education and External Studies (CEES) and the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) will graduate.
Wednesday, January 31, will witness students from the College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), and College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources, and Bio-Security (COVAB) receiving their degrees.
Makerere University Business School (MUBS) students will gather at Freedom Square for graduation on Thursday, February 1.
On the last day, which is FRIDAY, February 2, students from the College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology (CEDAT) and College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) will graduate.
