Operatives from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence have arrested one of the key suspects who raided the home of Ambassador Barbra Nekesa (NRM Treasurer) in Bukesa, Makindye Division, and robbed Shs2.241 billion.
Ivan Lukungu, alias Pallaso, aged 25, a boda boda rider who is said to have transported the stolen cash, has been on the run since the incident happened on December 5, 2023.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said operatives tracked him down and arrested him in Masaka City.
“The operatives arrested Lukungu by building upon the intelligence they had gathered and tracked him down in Masaka City after about three days of active surveillance and later arrest along Edward Street in Masaka,” Enanga said.
He explained that upon arrest and subsequent interrogation, Lukungu confessed to having participated in the robbery, and he received Shs120 million as his share.
“He bought a Toyota Harrier at Shs62 million, a restaurant at Shs10 million, a house in Nyendo Mukungwe at Shs20 million, a plot along Nabugabo-Masaka road at Shs15 million, and an electric shop at goodwill for Shs16 million,” Enanga said.
The arrest of Lukungu brings the number of suspects arrested in connection to the robbery to 13.
His co-accused, who include police officers among others, have since been arraigned before the Chief Magistrates Court in Makindye on aggravated robbery charges and remanded to Luzira Prison.
