A 26-year-old Wamoka Kusuya, a resident of Bushandu village in Bunambale parish, Tsekululu sub-county, Namisindwa district, lost his life during a drinking competition.
The competition, held over the weekend at Busulwa trading centre, was organized by local businessman Zeki, who promised a cash reward of Shs10,000 to the winner capable of consuming 20 bottles of Kombucha, a Kenyan brand product.
Kusuya collapsed after consuming just five bottles. Despite residents’ efforts to administer traditional first aid measures, such as having him drink urine and raw eggs, his condition continued to deteriorate.
He was rushed to Magale Health Centre III, but he passed away on the way.
