Former She Cranes captain and two-time African champion, Peace Proscovia, has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Uganda Netball team at the upcoming UK Vitality Netball Nations Cup.
Proscovia, renowned for her exceptional leadership and on-court prowess, will be supporting head coach Fred Mugerwa in guiding a talented squad of 12 ladies to the prestigious tournament, set to take place across the weekends of 20-21 and 27-28 January 2024 in England and Wales.
Having captained Uganda to two separate Netball World Cup championships, Proscovia brings a wealth of experience and strategic insight to her new coaching role. Her illustrious playing career included stints with prominent teams such as Loughborough Lightning (England), Sunshine Coast Lightning in Austria, and Surrey Storm in the United Kingdom.
In the wake of the Uganda Netball Federation’s disbandment last year, Proscovia was named part of the Normalisation Committee, tasked with overseeing netball activities in the country. Her dedication to the sport and commitment to its development have been evident both on and off the court.
The Vitality Netball Nations Cup will see the She Cranes go head-to-head with some of the world’s leading netball nations, including Wales, England, Australia, and New Zealand.
The tournament will kick off with the first two days hosted at the iconic OVO Arena Wembley, with subsequent matches taking place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
The She Cranes’ full squad for the Vitality Series includes a formidable lineup of players, featuring Lillian Achola, Florence Adunia, Mercy Batamuliza, Haniisha Muhameed Nakaate, Falidah Kadondi, Sandrah Ruth Nambirige, Christine Namulumba Kango, Shadiah Nassanga Ssegujja, Sarah Nakiyunga, Margaret Baagala, Irene Eyaru (c), and Mary Nuba Cholhok.
