The First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni, has received a negative COVID-19 test result after a short period of illness.
Over the weekend, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19 and was promptly placed in isolation.
However, President Yoweri Museveni, in a brief message on X (formerly Twitter), has confirmed her recovery.
“Maama Janet has defeated Coronavirus. This morning, her samples were sent to Mbarara and they were all negative. Thank you for your prayers. Two days ago, I checked, again, for corona and the results were negative like they were on the 26th of December, 2023,” Museveni stated.
“The doctors are now saying that corona spreads more through touching yourself on the soft parts of the body (the eyes, the nose, the mouth, etc.) with infected hands than even through breathing. Is it true? Hon. Jane Aceng, please clarify to all,” he added.
Museveni commended his wife for her courageous fight against the virus and emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene practices. He urged people to be cautious of frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, tables, and armchairs, emphasizing the need for regular sanitization. Additionally, he advised against unnecessary handshaking.
