The Police’s Crime Investigations Directorate (CID) has summoned some Members of Parliament and officials from the Ministry of Finance to assist in investigations regarding the connivance in stealing public funds.

According to reports, the summoned MPs and Finance officials are expected to appear before the CID headquarters at Kibuli in Kampala this morning.

Reports, which this publication could not verify, indicated that the Speaker of Parliament, who is also the Bukedea Woman MP, Rt Hon Anita Among, Cissy Namujju (Lwengo Woman MP), and Hon Herbert Ariko (Soroti City East Division) headline the list of summoned legislators.

Also summoned are staff of Parliament whose accounts continued to receive huge amounts of money. Among these staff are Ranny Ismail from the Office of the Prime Minister, Emmanuel Okwir Emuron, and Okema Leonard under the Speaker’s office.

It is further reported that the investigation was ordered by President Yoweri Museveni following his State of the Nation Address last Thursday, where he vowed to crack down on corrupt officials.

During his address, Museveni noted that there is a group of officials from Parliament who connive with the Ministry of Finance to steal taxpayers’ money.
