Uganda’s middle distance runner Halimah Nakaayi set a new national record in the Women’s 800 meters at the World Athletics Continental Tour event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 2019 World Champion from Uganda clocked an impressive 1:57.56, narrowly surpassing her previous record of 1:57.62 set at the Anniversary Games in London on July 23, 2023.

Nakaayi edged out Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma by a mere six-thousandths of a second, securing her victory. Sage Hurta-Klecker of the United States finished in third place.

Nakaayi’s next focus is the Diamond League in Eugene on May 25, 2024, followed by the Oslo Diamond League on May 30, 2024. These two races will provide Nakaayi with much-needed preparation ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
