“They should set up a bar too”: Ugandans react to Minister Anywar’s request for setting up a salon at the new Parliament building

Minister Beatrice Anywar.

The Minister of State for Environment, Beatrice Anywar, has asked Parliament to consider setting up a salon at the new Parliament building currently under construction to offer makeover services to female legislators.

According to Anywar, having a beauty parlour would help facilitate the needs of female MPs before house sessions. She explained that with the recently opened gym at Parliament, many female MPs would want to exercise, but they fear that it would leave their hair disorganized, hence the need for a salon.

“What I am really saying is that we ladies can come early, go to the gym, and then after head to the salon,” she said during the Parliament session on Thursday.

Anywar’s demand has attracted massive reactions from the public, with many seeing the request as another opportunity for the legislators to misuse public funds.

@NahabweUG said, “We are on our own, fellow Ugandans.”

“Parliament is showing that all they care about is themselves, no wonder they steal iron sheets meant for the poor people they purport to represent! Sad!” commented @Maserekayoh4.

@melody_kamazima sarcastically said, “They should consider a bar too 😏😏😏”

@kekaddu sees nothing wrong with the request, “Staff welfare. Nothing wrong with that. So many workplaces have canteens and restaurants.”
