Rwandan singer Bruce Melodie making big strides in the US, he now casually chills with legendary dancehall star Shaggy

Rwandan singer Bruce Melodie is certainly pushing his career to international levels. The 32-year-old kicked off the year with world tours, performing in the USA and several European countries.

Melodie’s music tour is a result of his track ‘When She is Around,’ which features the legendary Jamaican artist Shaggy and was released over five months ago.

The collaboration, which has amassed over five million views on YouTube, has propelled the Rwandan star to top-tier status, opening doors to mega stages and interviews with major media outlets and personalities worldwide.

Based on what the singer posts on social media, Instagram to be specific, he is becoming an international star, often sharing videos and photos of casual chilling sessions and freestyle sessions with Shaggy.

Bruce Melodie produces his music under the 1:55 AM label, which was led by Coach Gael, but it is also reported that his team is in talks with S-Curve Records, one of the biggest record labels in the United States.

For starters, Bruce Melodie released his debut album “Tropical” in 2016. The album topped charts across Africa and earned him numerous awards, including Best New Artist at the AFRIMAs. He further released several more successful albums, collaborating with top artists such as AJ Tracey, Kida Kudz, and Mayorkun.

In 2020, he released an album dubbed “The Awakening”. The album featured several hit singles and gained widespread attention from both fans and critics alike.

The album showcased Bruce’s versatility as an artist, combining traditional African sounds with modern influences from hip-hop, pop, and more.

Bruce Melodie, who is now one of the most sought-after artists in Africa, has several hit songs which include; Katerina, Saa Moya, Katapilla, and Akinyuma among others.

Last year, he performed at the ‘iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour’ in the US. He has since made several performances, with Shaggy always coming on stage to support him.

Also, in 2023, the singer visited Uganda and was hosted by NTV, where he expressed his desire to work with a Ugandan female artiste.

“I’m on the lookout for a collaborator, preferably a female artist who is open and comfortable working alongside me,” Melodie said while appearing on NTV The Beat.

Melodie’s positive strides in the music industry are a big indicator of how Rwanda’s music industry is striving to catch up with countries in the East African region.
