The Crime Intelligence Directorate and the Flying Squad Unit have arrested three staff members of a washing bay near Rubaga Cathedral for allegedly stealing over Shs100 million from Busiro County East Member of Parliament (MP), Medard Sseggona’s car.

According to the police, on March 8, 2024, the MP took his car for a wash at the washing bay. It is reported that the back seat of the vehicle had a bag containing about Shs118 million.

However, one of the boys contracted to wash the car noticed the bag full of cash and alerted some of his colleagues, who decided to plot to steal the cash. They allegedly removed the bag with cash and took off.

Later in the day, when Sseggona returned to pick up his vehicle, he noticed that his bag containing the money was missing. He decided to report to the police, who started to investigate the matter.

Three suspects; Jordan Asiimwe, Emmanuel Migadde, and John Vianney Kibaale were arrested earlier this week. The security operatives first recovered Shs35 million from one of the suspects who stayed in Kinaawa. It was found in the ceiling of his rental. The police also recovered another Shs50 million, making it Shs85 million recovered from the three suspects.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson, said that the hunt is on for the remaining cash, noting that the suspects are providing good leads on the whereabouts of the cash which is yet to be recovered.
