All African Games: Breakdown of Uganda’s 9 medals so far

Uganda is currently ranked 14th on the medal table at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra City, Ghana, having won nine medals (two gold, 4 silver, and three bronze).

U.S.-based Ugandan swimmer Anna Gloria Muzito won Uganda’s first medal at the ongoing edition, earning bronze in the women’s 100m freestyle race. Muzito clocked a time of 56:01 seconds to finish behind Egypt’s Farida Osman and South African Caltin Ann De Lange.

Husina Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi won Uganda’s first gold at the ongoing edition after topping the badminton women’s doubles. The duo defeated the Algerian duo of Halla Bouksani and Tanina Violette Mammeri. Kobugabe also won bronze in the badminton women’s singles.

Cyclist Charles Kagimu secured the country’s second gold, clinching the treasured medal in the individual time trial category.

On Tuesday, Halima Nakaayi settled for silver in the Women’s 800m final, coming second at 1.58.59. This marks Nakaayi’s second medal in the same category at the African Games. In Rabat, Morocco (2019), she scooped bronze.

Weightlifter Davis Niyoyita has already earned three medals at the event: two silver in the men’s 55kg and men’s 55kg clean & jerk, and bronze in the men’s 55kg snatch.

Also, Fadilah Mohammed Rafi won bronze in the badminton women’s singles.

Meanwhile, Uganda still has strong representation in Athletics, Boxing, Cricket, Rugby (7’s), Swimming, Basketball, Taekwondo, Handball, and football.

The Uganda Hippos have already booked a slot in the final of the men’s football tournament after coming from two goals down to defeat Congo 4-2 in the semifinals played on Tuesday at Accra Sports Stadium.

For the Uganda Sevens, the team secured two wins on the opening day of the Sevens tournament yesterday, edging Zimbabwe 14-00 in the opening game and defeating Tunisia 48-00 in a one-sided affair.
