Veteran opposition strongman Dr. Kizza Besigye has claimed that the few individuals trying to fight corruption in Parliament will not succeed as they are fighting within a territory controlled by President Yoweri Museveni.

Besigye believes that whoever goes to Parliament goes to serve in Museveni’s Parliament as he managed to capture all the institutions of government.

“Parliament is a marketplace where people are looking for money because that’s how they got there. If an MP wishes to stay in Parliament, he or she ends up being captured by Mr. Museveni because he controls everything,” said Besigye while appearing on NBS TV this morning.

According to Besigye, the population together with a few leaders cannot deal with the corruption in Parliament.

“We are spending a lot of time focusing on the symptoms. Even if you treat the symptoms, the disease will stay. Ugandans need to address the causes of this disease which are Mr. Museveni and his family. All the money we collect, it is Mr. Museveni and his family who determine how we spend it,” he said.

On the issue of former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga receiving Shs500m from Parliament as a ‘Service Award,’ Besigye said that he cannot be a judge.

“We have trained democratic leaders for a system that doesn’t exist. We have trained the Mpuugas for a system that doesn’t exist,” he said.
