Police officer arrested for stealing impounded motorcycle

Police in Kampala Metropolitan have arrested Police Constable (PC) Ahabwe Michael, who disappeared after stealing a motorcycle belonging to a boda boda rider identified as Walusimbi Samuel.

The motorcycle had been impounded during a traffic enforcement operation, with the officer assigned to deliver it to the CPS yard, a task which he neglected.

Subsequently, the officer vanished from CPS Kampala.

Authorities state that while in hiding in Mbarara, the officer decided to join the SGA Security Company as a security guard. His first deployment was on January 20, 2024, at the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Ltd.

However, after 18 days, he was arrested for stealing metallic rail bars.

The theft case file was transferred with the suspect to CPS Kampala for further court proceedings.

On Tuesday, the officer appeared before the Buganda Road Court and was charged with theft, robbery, and desertion. He was then remanded to Luzira Prison.
