Uganda’s professional golfer Ronald “Mayo” Rugumayo received a huge welcome at Entebbe International Airport as he returned from Kenya, where he made history on Friday as the first Ugandan to make the DP World Tour. cut

The 31-year-old sank a birdie putt on the final hole during the second round of the Magical Kenya Open at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi city.

Rugumayo exited Entebbe Airport’s arrivals door donning a red t-shirt, sky-blue jeans, and a cap while holding the Ugandan flag, as fans and his family members chanted his name.

“Each and everything I am doing right now, I am doing for my country. My dream has always been to inspire upcoming golfers. I would feel really great if, in the next few years, I see more Ugandans and East Africans playing in big tours and doing even better than I’m doing,” said Rugumayo after achieving the historic cut.

Ranked 2,901st in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), Rugumayo also became the first Ugandan to nail a hole-in-one in the DP World Tour last season.

Meanwhile, Rugumayo was in Kenya as part of a team of 10 golfers sponsored by Absa Bank Uganda to participate in the tournament.
