Crested Cranes midfielder Nabirye signs for Spartak Moscow

Crested Cranes midfielder Joan Nabirye has signed a two-year contract with the Russian Women’s Super League side Spartak Moscow.

The midfielder, who featured for FK Minsk in Belarus last season before her contract ran out, has become a free agent.

“I am happy to be joining a team in one of the most competitive leagues. I will do my best to help Spartak Moscow win trophies at the national and international levels,” said Nabirye.

Nabirye becomes the second Ugandan to join a Russian Women’s Super League side, with Fauzia Najjemba having signed for Dynamo Moscow.

The midfielder has previously played for Vihiga Queens FC in Kenya, winning two Kenya Women’s Premier League titles and helping the team win the 2022 Zonal CECAFA/CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier.

She also played for Uganda at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.
