Police have confirmed the assassination attempt on the life of Aloysius Bugingo, the senior pastor of House of Prayer Ministries, and the murder of his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, the incident occurred on Tuesday as Bugingo returned home.

“At around 9 PM, unidentified assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle, registered as PRAIZ GOD, along Namungona, Zone 2, Kasubi Rubaga Division, Kampala, at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road before escaping the scene on a motorcycle,” said Owoyesigyire in a statement.

“His bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, succumbed to the assault and was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital,” he said.

Currently, Pastor Bugingo is undergoing medical treatment and is under close monitoring.

Regarding the investigations, Owoyesigyire revealed that when the police detectives arrived at the scene, it was discovered that the scene had been tampered with. However, the officers managed to obtain statements from eyewitnesses.

“We are thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants,” said Owoyesigyire.
