Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat has been found dead in Kenya, the police reported on Sunday, amid local media accounts suggesting he was the victim of murder.
Kiplagat, aged 34 and originally from Kenya, had represented Uganda on the international stage in the 3,000m steeplechase, participating in numerous Olympic Games and World Championships.
His lifeless body was discovered in a car on the outskirts of Eldoret, a town in the Rift Valley known for being the residence of many athletes, on Saturday night.
“An investigation has been initiated, and officers are actively pursuing leads,” stated the Kenyan police.
The police further revealed that Kiplagat’s body displayed a deep knife wound to his neck, indicating that he had been stabbed.
