The First Lady, Janet Museveni, has tested positive for Covid-19, according to President Yoweri Museveni.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) this evening, the President confirmed that the First Lady is currently under isolation.
“On Christmas day, after a family lunch, Maama started feeling kukarakaatwa (a sandy feeling) in the throat. We did a Rapid Corona test, which was negative. However, we sent another sample to Mbarara for a PCR test, and it came back Positive,” reads Museveni’s post in part.
Museveni, who is at Rwakitura with his wife, now states that he will continue with programs that do not involve the First Lady.
However, he expressed shock at testing negative for COVID-19 despite sharing the same space with Janet all this while.
“What is of interest is how I remained negative despite being with Maama all these days – sharing the room, the air-conditioned car to Entebbe and back to Nakasero. Was it because I am an emponoka (survivor) of Corona last May? Maama is now a first-time corona warrior. She is doing well.”
