Season 7 of the Singleton Match Challenge came to an exhilarating end on Saturday night, at the illustrious 72-par Entebbe Club.
In attendece was the UBL executive team that included UBL Board Chairman Jimmy Mugerwa, Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo and the Finance Director Eunice Waweru.
The day that kicked off with grueling golfing action on the course, was crowned off with a splendid black tie themed 19th hole experience, that saw guests and golfers dolled up in their finest black-tie outfits, and in high party spirits, as they witnessed the climax of the 7th edition of the Singleton Match Play Challenge.
Simply put, the event lived to its billing, as one to remember.
Since its tee off in July, the annual golf series continued to register an impressive turn up at every edition. The finale edition attracted close to 300 golfers.
This year’s match play challenge began with a rigorous qualification round in July, where pairs went head-to-head, striving to secure spots in the subsequent rounds, and ultimately become the Singleton Match Play Champions.
However, there was always bound to be one winning pair, and Saturday night saw Richard Muchunguzi and Saidi Kirarira crowned Champions, after thrashing Bogera Joseph and Kiddu 3/2 to take the coveted top spot.
“We believed in teamwork, and it played a pivotal role in our win,” remarked Richard and Saidi, in a post-victory media interaction on the 18th hole.
Their outstanding performance earned them a fully paid trip to Dubai, and an array of prizes generously provided by the event sponsors that included Singleton, CFAO DSTV, Uganda Airlines, and Afrisafe.
Second place winners, Joseph Bogera and Kiddu Kenneth, secured a trip to Zanzibar and exclusive Singleton goodies.
While third-place pair of Peter Magona and Serwano Walusimbi, were awarded a flight to Mombasa courtesy of Uganda Airlines.
The night was not just about the Matchplay champions, it also saw other significant winners from the subsidiary category.
Addressing guests and golfers at the event, Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL) Managing Director- Andrew Kilonzo, reiterated UBL’s commitment to the game of golf and the Singleton Challenge, re-emphasising the brand’s commitment to continue the series. Kilonzo also expressed pride in the achievements of the Singleton Challenge.
“As UBL, we are immensely proud of what the Singleton Matchplay Challenge has achieved. Through this tournament, our vision to grow and make the game of golf more accessible and fun, has been accurately represented. The Singleton Challenge has not only given us an opportunity to play exceptional golf, it has continuously presented the chance to meet incredible people, have lots of fun, and create unforgettable moments. That is what The Singleton is about. I want to thank golfers and the Entebbe Club for standing with us thus far; they are the real reason the Singelton Matchplay Challenge is now heading into the 8th season. And I am happy to confirm that UBL is in this for the long haul, and we hope to meet again very soon,” he said.
Myko Ouma and his band took golfers on an entertaining live music journey, as they serenaded them with a variety of classics and trending jams.
Even after the live band, golfers and their guests were not about to retire; they partied on into the wee hours of Sunday morning.
