A police detective in Buyende has been dismissed from the force following allegations of raping a woman who had sought help from the police to report a case of domestic violence.
Inspector of Police Balikoowa Godfrey, who served as the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Namusiita Police Post, is accused of luring the woman with a promise to provide her with a safe place to stay overnight until the following day.
Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, explained the sequence of events, stating that when the victim reported the domestic violence matter, a team of three officers was dispatched to investigate the case.
These officers went to the victim’s residence in an attempt to arrest the suspect, but he was not found at the scene. The victim, fearing for her safety until her husband’s arrest, was left in a vulnerable position.
At approximately 6 p.m., Inspector of Police Balikoowa allegedly offered to assist the victim by providing her with a place to spend the night. Instead of fulfilling his duty, he reportedly took her to his home at Nakabira police barracks. There, he purchased food and drinks for the victim before committing the heinous act of rape.
The case of rape was promptly reported against Balikoowa, leading to his arraignment before the police disciplinary court.
Subsequently, he was dismissed from the police force.
Enanga also indicated that Balikoowa will face further legal proceedings in the courts of law.
