KCCA FC has officially announced the departure of their head coach, Sergio Traguil, just four months into his tenure with the club. The club shared the news of the Portuguese tactician’s exit through a statement posted on their social media, thereby ending weeks of speculation about his future with the team.
In their official statement, the club cited a family issue requiring immediate attention as the reason for Traguil’s departure, emphasizing that both parties had mutually agreed to part ways. The statement also revealed that the assistant manager, Luis Manuel Corriero, would also be leaving the club.
The Lugogo-based club also announced the appointment of Jackson Magera Kaddu as the interim Head Coach.
“First team coach Jackson Magera Kaddu takes charge of all First Team duties as the interim Head coach with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Sergio Traguil assumed the role of head coach for KCCA FC in June of the same year. He succeeded Jackson Mayanja, who had served as interim manager since April 19, 2023, following the dismissal of Morley Byekwaso.
Despite Traguil’s impressive coaching background, which included previous managerial stints with teams such as Kaduna United in Nigeria, Hearts of Oak in Ghana, and Singida Big Stars in Tanzania, his tenure at KCCA FC did not meet the high expectations set for the 13-time Uganda Premier League champions.
The significant setback during his time at the helm was a winless start in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League. KCCA FC faced defeats in all four of their games against BUL, Maroons, Express, and Kitara FC.
Additionally, the club suffered a loss against URA FC in the FUFA Super Eight and faced elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Libya’s Abu Salim. KCCA FC now enters a period of transition with Jackson Magera Kaddu taking on the role of interim Head Coach, tasked with steering the team through the challenges of the ongoing season. The club and its fans await further developments in the wake of this significant coaching change.
