President Yoweri Museveni has said that Uganda possesses all the necessary resources for its prosperity, including human resources, minerals, technology, and a secure environment. He made these remarks during the official celebration of Uganda’s 61st Independence Day Anniversary at the Kitgum District Farm Institute in Kitgum Municipality.
Museveni pointed out that the primary obstacle to development in the country is corruption, which needs to be vigorously combated.
He stated, “We need to fight corruption because it’s the one delaying us, and we are going to crush these corrupt people because they are parasites.”
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of regional and continental integration for Uganda’s development, highlighting that such integration would support wealth creators.
“The USA is successful because they united the 13 colonies, and they kept on expanding. If I were in America, I would be a billionaire because I would sell my milk, beef, or fruits all over the USA,” he stated.
The day-long event centered around the theme “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation: Taking Charge of our Future as a Free Nation.”
Notably, 42 individuals, including gold medalists Joshua Cheptegei and Victor Kiplangat, were honoured with medals during the celebration.
