A dramatic moment unfolded at Muteeesa II Wankukuku Stadium over the weekend during a StarTimes Uganda Premier League match between Express and Mbarara City.
The incident involved Ronnie Mutebi, the goalkeeper for Mbarara City FC (Ankole Lions), who suddenly left the field due to a stomach upset.
As a result of Mutebi’s unexpected departure, the Center Referee, Rogers Ssemere, had no choice but to stop the match. According to the rules of the game, a match cannot continue without a goalkeeper.
After a brief delay, the game resumed once Mutebi returned to the pitch.
Sports photojournalist John Batanudde posted about the incident, and it garnered attention on social media. In one of the comments, Kakumirizi Arthur humorously noted, “He did it even during our inter-class match at Wobulenzi High in 2009.”
Meanwhile, the match between Express and Mbarara City concluded in a goalless draw.
