•Women’s 800m semis – Halima Nakaayi, 9:25pm
Middle-distance runner Halima Nakaayi is poised to ignite Uganda’s medal aspirations as she steps onto the track this Friday at the ongoing 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Nakaayi, a force to be reckoned with in the women’s 800m, is set to compete in Heat Three with her sights firmly set on securing a spot in Sunday’s eagerly anticipated final.
The top two finishers from each heat, accompanied by the two fastest times across all three heats, will advance to the ultimate showdown.
Nakaayi secured her place in the semifinals after posting 1:59.68. However, her journey only intensifies as she faces a formidable challenge in Heat Three. The heat features Athing Mu from the United States and Mary Moraa from Kenya, both automatic favourites to secure progression.
Athing Mu is the reigning Olympic and World Champion in the 800m distance while Mary Moraa boasts a remarkable track record, having clinched bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon and claiming gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
As Nakaayi readies herself for this pivotal race, all eyes are on her as she strives to bring glory to Uganda on the global stage.
