Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine and the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, has responded to claims suggesting that the party has not provided adequate support to its member of parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Ssegirinya is currently in the Netherlands undergoing medical treatment for a range of health issues.
Speaking during the launch of NUP’s nationwide tour in Kamwokya, Bobi Wine clarified that the party is actively collaborating with parliament to ensure that all medical expenses incurred by Ssegirinya are covered.
He further encouraged Ssegirinya not to allow himself to be exploited by individuals with political motives, who might aim to undermine the party’s reputation.
This development follows a recent occurrence where Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko, ‘hosted’ Ssegirinya on his social media platforms., where the MP said that the cost of his medical treatment abroad was beyond his pockets.
Parliament’s response came earlier this week, as officials stated their inability to immediately assist Ssegirinya due to his failure to adhere to the necessary procedures for obtaining medical treatment outside the country.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa said that Ssegirinya left Uganda for the Netherlands without obtaining the required clearance from the medical board responsible for approving international medical referrals.
