A Congolese national identified as Basake Ndakulye, aged 39, has been arrested by the Police in Kampala for further questioning after a hand grenade exploded at his residence in the Katende zone of Nakulabye, Rubaga Division.
The incident occurred on August 15, around 4:30 am. No family members were harmed during the explosion.
The Police revealed that the family had been residing in the area for approximately four years following their displacement from North Kivu as refugees.
“The scene was meticulously examined and documented. Items such as a safety pin, a green lead, a spoon, and soil samples were collected for additional analysis,” said the police.
The Congolese national admitted to having illegally brought the explosive device into the country, leading to his immediate arrest for unlawful possession of dangerous materials.
“We are also in the process of verifying his immigration status. Ndakulye was found in possession of two passports, one from the Democratic Republic of Congo and the other from Burundi,” said the police.
The Directorate of Crime Intelligence is actively conducting a comprehensive profiling of Ndakulye to gather further information about his background and potential motives.
