Kira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has said that he is not surprised that he was dismissed from his role as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Chief Whip in Parliament by FDC party president Patrick Amuriat and Secretary-General Nandala Mafabi.
Ssemujju, who has been openly critical of the party’s leadership, stated that his dismissal had been a long time coming, as he had consistently raised concerns about alleged unethical collaborations with President Museveni.
On Tuesday, Nandala Mafabi officially communicated Ssemujju’s dismissal to Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, appointing Yusuf Nsibambi as the new FDC Chief Whip.
In response, Ssemujju has asserted that while Amuriat and Nandala may not have had the authority to dismiss him from his position, he has decided not to contest the decision.
He explained, “Only the National Executive Committee can remove me. However, since Nandala and Amuriat have chosen to terminate my role, I will not retaliate.”
Ssemujju revealed that his removal is attributed to his outspokenness about what he perceives as questionable practices within the party.
“I was dismissed for upholding the truth, and I will continue to do so,” he said.
Ssemujju alleges that Amuriat and Mafabi accepted financial contributions from President Museveni’s camp to fund their election campaigns in 2021. However, both Amuriat and Mafabi have vehemently denied these allegations.
