Two siblings, Margret Kendere and Ronald Bakashaba, have been arrested by the police in Kiruhura district for allegedly killing their brother-in-law. The incident reportedly happened due to an alleged failure to pay dowry.
The suspects, along with three others, are accused of collaborating and physically assaulting Emmanuel Kwizera, their 35-year-old brother-in-law and resident of Rwomuti Village in Rugongi parish, Kiruhura district. Kwizera had gone to his wife’s parental home to try and take her back to his home.
According to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, the lifeless body of the deceased was later discovered in one of the dams at the farm owned by George Rwakashugi in Katete cell.
Enanga further stated that the other siblings involved in the murder, namely Grace Namara, Allen Ikiriza, and James Amumpaire, are on the run.
“We are making concerted efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining siblings who took part in this heinous crime, and they will face charges accordingly,” said Enanga.
Dowry refers to the money or property traditionally given to the bride’s family as a symbolic gesture of goodwill before marriage.
