Jimmy Mugerwa has been appointed as the new board chairman of Uganda Breweries Ltd (UBL), effective from July 1, 2023. He succeeds Japheth Katto, who retired after serving on the UBL board for eight years as an independent non-executive director and four years as board chairman.
The announcement of Mugerwa’s appointment was made by Agnes Ssali, the company secretary, on behalf of the board on Tuesday.
Prior to this role, Mugerwa had been serving as an independent non-executive director on the UBL board since July 2018.
UBL expressed its appreciation for outgoing board chairman Katto, acknowledging his vibrant contributions, sound business advice, and visionary leadership during his tenure.
In addition to Mugerwa’s appointment, the company also announced the appointment of Felix Okoboi as an independent non-executive director, effective from May 30, 2023.
Who is Jimmy Mugerwa?
Jimmy Mugerwa is the founder and CEO of Zoramu Consulting Group. He possesses extensive experience as a senior business leader, with over 27 years in the Oil & Gas sector across Africa and Europe.
Mugerwa has a strong background in team leadership, project management, government and stakeholder relationship building, joint ventures, strategy development, marketing, and operational excellence.
He previously served as the Managing Director for Tullow Oil Operations in Uganda for eight years. Before joining Tullow Oil, Mugerwa held various senior executive roles at Royal Dutch Shell for 19 years, including Senior Regional Advisor for Sub Saharan Africa, Africa Retail Marketing Manager, and Shell East Africa General Manager.
Mugerwa is an experienced board chair and independent non-executive director. He also serves on the advisory board of Veracity Worldwide USA. In addition to his professional achievements, Mugerwa was recently installed as the president of the newly formed Kigo Seven Lakes Rotary Club.
