Geofrey Kayemba Solo, the Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi South, has raised his concern regarding the National Medical Stores (NMS) supplying small-sized condoms in his constituency.
Kayemba raised the matter of national importance during a parliamentary session on Wednesday.
The MP expressed his concern after receiving numerous complaints from his constituents about the small-sized condoms provided.
“I have received a complaint that they brought condoms of small sizes that could not fit users. As a result, they were left unused, and some individuals resorted to burning them. Unfortunately, I fear that some lives may have been lost due to this issue,” he told parliament.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa referred the matter to the Parliament’s Committee on HIV/AIDS. He advised the committee to summon both Kayemba and the officials from the NMS to shed light on the situation and find a suitable resolution.
The NMS holds the responsibility of procuring, storing, and distributing essential medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities across the country.
