Police in Mukono have arrested a security guard who allegedly shot and killed a student in his final year at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Agaba Rudeny from Kiwanga, tragically lost his life in an incident that occurred on Sunday around 1 pm at Meru Fuel Station in Kiwanga, Mukono District.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that a dispute ensued between the deceased and a private security guard named Tugume Kadili, 27, when the student allegedly attempted to scale a wall fence within the guard’s assigned area.
The situation escalated, leading to the security guard discharging his firearm, resulting in the student sustaining fatal injuries. Swift medical attention was provided, and the victim was urgently transported to Gwatilo Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Upon their arrival at the scene, the police discovered two cartridge casings, an army green vehicle with the registration number UAW403S, showing a suspected bullet hole.
Additionally, a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was recovered, and live ammunition was found near a pool of blood. These items have been seized as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The security guard was arrested and is currently held at Seeta Police Station.
This tragic incident adds to the concerning trend of shootings that have occurred in the past two months.
