South Africa-based Ugandan socialite Zari Hassan recently opened up about her wedding with Shakib Lutaaya, shedding light on the bride price gift she received.
Speaking in an interview on a local TV in Tanzania, Zari expressed her gratitude for the blessings in her life and emphasized her desire to strengthen her faith as a Muslim. She revealed that, instead of material possessions, she requested a Quran from her husband as her preferred bride price.
“I have been fortunate to have everything I’ve ever wanted in this world. God has bestowed upon me a beautiful life, my children are thriving, and my business is flourishing. For me, the only thing I asked of my husband was a Quran, as I am dedicated to deepening my faith. I am a Muslim as well, and he was pleasantly surprised to learn that. Consequently, he presented me with a Quran, and that was it,” Zari said.
As per Islamic customs, the dowry, referred to as the Mahr, is typically determined through negotiation between the couple or their families during the marriage process.
Zari Hassan exchanged vows with her younger sweetheart Shakib Cham Lutaaya, aged 32, in a modest Muslim wedding that took place in a private residence on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
