Police have confirmed that they have three people in custody over the shooting of renowned blogger Ibrahim Tusuubira alias Jaja Iculi.
One of the arrested suspects is Mathias Wasswa, the deceased’s driver.
On a fateful day, Wasswa moved with Iculi all day long, according to Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, who was speaking to journalists this afternoon.
Enanga said that investigations have indicated that played football in Munyonyo before he left and used the Entebbe Expressway and later had dinner at Nyakaana bar in Mutungo where he left at around 8:15 pm for his home in Kyanja.
However, he allegedly received a questionable phone call near the Munyonyo roundabout.
“Our cyber teams are following a lead that as soon as they left Mutungo, when they reached Munyonyo roundabout, Isma received a phone call and asked the driver to park aside because the person behind the phone was telling him to wait for him there( at the roundabout),” Enanga said.
He added, “They waited for the person behind the phone call in vain as he didn’t appear and they drove home until when they reached the gate where they were attacked. It is not clear whether the caller is linked to the masterminds of this murder or not but our investigations will be able to establish in due course.”
Despite not divulging details, Enanga said the police also made more two arrests and they are interrogating them.
Enanga also disclosed that their K-nine dogs managed to trail the scent of the assailants.
“The two assailants managed to get away on foot. Our K-nine dogs managed to trail the scent up to one of the main roads where it is believed that they boarded a motorcycle and escaped. They dropped one glove which we believe was used by the shooter,” Enanga explained.
Iculi was buried in Katwe-Nkokonjeru, Mukono District on Sunday.
