Police in Masaka city are investigating circumstances under which Centenary High School perimeter wall in Nyendo collapsed and crushed a 25-year-old woman to death.
Around 10 am, Betty Nabalonge, a resident of Mukudde zone, Nyendo-Mukungwe division, was reportedly returning from her sister’s house, where she had gone to charge her phone when the crumbling wall collapsed on her.
Nabalonge’s body was taken to Masaka regional referral hospital for postmortem.
Residents claim that they informed the school administration about the wall’s poor condition, but they never received a response.
Residents attempted to put down the remaining wall after Nabalonge was killed, but police dispersed them by firing tear gas.
The police spokesperson for the greater Masaka region, Twaha Kasirye said the school proprietor will be charged with rash and negligent acts.
