Sheila Midera’s life story is reminiscent of the beloved “Oga movies” where a gifted child faces adversity, including the loss of her mother and an oppressive stepmother. In most of these tales, a loving but perhaps clueless father submits to the new partner’s wishes. Sheila’s story is one of resilience, determination, and a touch of magic.
Sheila, a native of Bungoma County, lost her mother when she was just five years old. Her father, James Iramuka, a driver for a prominent local politician, decided to remarry to provide Sheila with the nurturing she needed. However, life took a dark turn when Sheila reached Form 3 in 2006. Her stepmother, Branice, became abusive, hindering Sheila’s studies and even denying her food.
Sheila shouldered all the household chores while her two stepsisters, aged 10 and 13 at the time, enjoyed movies under their mother’s favor. Undeterred, Sheila graduated from high school and found a job as an M-Pesa agent in 2008. Her stepmother was never pleased with her progress and falsely claimed that Sheila had obtained the job through unethical means.
Despite the ongoing hostility, Sheila persevered. In 2009, a male client entered her kiosk, and a deep connection blossomed. Love at first sight led to a relationship. However, Branice’s anger intensified, and she labeled Sheila a “whore,” even expressing a desire for her elder daughter to date Philip, Sheila’s future husband.
Philip, a Nairobi-based businessperson, eventually supported Sheila’s higher education, and she graduated in 2013. They married in 2015 and began their quest to start a family. However, Branice refused to attend their wedding.
Struggling with infertility, they underwent medical examinations, but no issues were found with their reproductive systems. Tragedy struck in mid-2017 when Sheila’s father passed away. During his funeral, a family friend, whom Sheila had confided in, approached her with a rare proposition: contact native doctor Kishimba Simba at 0714 995 588.
Sheila had also experienced disturbing dreams involving unknown men, despite being in a loving relationship with Philip. Together, they visited healer Kishimba, who uncovered a shocking revelation.
Branice had employed dark forces to cast a curse on Sheila’s womb due to her intense hatred. Kishimba vowed to reverse the curse and provided Sheila with special medicine.
The remedy worked like magic. Sheila conceived in September 2017 and gave birth to a baby boy in May 2018.
Back in Bungoma, Branice suffered recurrent paralysis on her left side. In her desperation, she tried to reach out to Sheila several times, seeking forgiveness.
Branice confessed to consulting a malevolent spiritualist with intentions of harming Sheila’s family.
In a surprising turn of events, Sheila decided to make peace with her stepmother in August 2019, despite the years of strife. Last week, she received a call from Branice, who reported a full recovery of her health.
