The “National Sports Bill,” which will repeal and replace the 1964 National Council of Sports Act, was passed by Parliament on Thursday.
The Committee on Education and Sports, which was tasked with coordinating the National Sports Bill 2021, introduced by Hon. Moses Magogo on November 10, 2022, and the Physical Activity and Sports Bill 2022, introduced by the State Minister of Education and Sports on December 6, last year, made the majority of the recommendations that led to the closure.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Magogo thanked the MPs for backing the National Sports Bill
“This newly passed bill will help us have a better sports sector that is providing employment to very many young people and benefiting those investing in sports,” said Magogo.
Speaker Anita Among, who is Magogo’s wife, jokingly remarked, “But you have not thanked me.”
“Private member I want to be thanked,” she added.
The MPs erupted in loud laughter in response to the remark.
In response, Magogo said, “Rt. Honourable Speaker, I started by thanking you and also credited you with the fact that it is history that you chaired this house that passed the bill.”
