Without a doubt, fame is like a two-sided coin with different implications on each side. Most Ugandan celebrities often find themselves in trouble because they weren’t ready for fame.
Popular music producer Skillz On The Beat real name Mukisa Erisa is one of them but he claimed to have learnt his lessons after overcoming drug addiction. He revealed his battle with drug addiction.
When we met Skillz at his new studio, Pendo Entertainment, he admitted that the previous year had not been good for him because he had been battling his drug addiction alone.
Skillz claims that after creating several successful songs for Kent & Flosso in 2016 (including Love Doctor, cheza mama, and Pull Up), he became famous, unfortunately, he bought into the myth that fame is synonymous with drug use.
“I started smoking marijuana so that I could hype up my vibe,” said Skillz.
Skillz claimed that during the six months he smoked marijuana, it caused more harm than good.
“I started losing focus on my dreams in the industry. I could barely be in the studio to work,” he said.
Skillz explained that his friends’ isolation of him caused him to assess his own behavior.
“I stepped back to rethink my journey. I decided to quit smoking,” he said.
The producer explained that he first lost interest in the music industry and gave farming his full attention.
“I already had my farming projects running. I had a poultry farm, goats, and a vegetable garden,” Skillz said.
After a year, according to Skillz, he felt that he had conquered his addiction and made the decision to return to the music business, but this time with intention and focus.
“I used my farming savings to set up a studio in Kyanja (Pendo Entertainment). I am now ready to serve the music industry again,” he said.
He vowed to never experiment with drugs again after they nearly destroyed his career.
