The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Peter Elwelu, asserted that, contrary to what some might believe, Uganda is not an ordinary country.

Speaking to journalists who had gathered at Kyambogo for the five-day State House symposium, Gen. Elwelu said Ugandans should be proud of their nation because it is well known and respected around the world.

“When something happens here, you see EU Parliament debating about it,” said Elwelu.

Elwelu continued by saying that everyone in Uganda is free to pursue their dreams of becoming anything.

“It’s only in Uganda where everyone thinks they can be president. Even a journalist can wake up and say, “I want to be president.” Truly, Uganda is a unique country,” he said.

He warned the young generation against wanting quick things.

“That’s why most people end up in problems and die in pain because they can’t achieve what they want,” he said.

Elwelu urged Ugandans to cooperate and uphold national peace in order for social and economic transformation to advance.
