Ssenyonyi appointed new Leader of the Opposition as NUP reshuffles shadow cabinet, with Zaake bouncing back

Nakawa West Member of Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has been appointed as the new Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

Ssenyonyi replaces Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe, Masaka City, who held the position for two and a half years.

After his appointment, while addressing members at the conference, Ssenyonyi thanked Mpuuga for his leadership and for allowing him to be mentored through the new appointment.

Ssenyonyi, previously known for his role as the spokesperson for the opposition party, the National Unity Platform, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to his new position.

Meanwhile, Mpuuga, who also serves as NUP’s Deputy President in Buganda, has been named Commissioner of Parliament.

Hon Muwanga Kivumbi has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, with Hon Namugga Gorreti as the deputy.

Hon John Nambyeshe has been reappointed as the Opposition Chief Whip and will be deputized by Hon Francis Zaake.
