Jubilee Health launches Maisha Fiti to fight non-communicable diseases

Jubilee Health Insurance has launched a wellness initiative, “Maisha Fiti,” in the Ugandan market. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to empowering individuals to manage and enhance both their physical and mental health.

The Maisha Fiti program aims to empower customers to proactively manage both preventive and curative aspects of their health. Additionally, it will establish a community platform for users to engage with peers and healthcare professionals on various critical health topics, including nutrition, lifestyle management, maternal health, and mental well-being.

In response to the escalating global health crisis linked to lifestyle choices, Jubilee Health Insurance addresses the issue head-on. The World Health Organization reports that 41 million people globally succumb to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) annually. Uganda, too, grapples with this challenge, with 39% of deaths attributed to NCDs and a 22% probability of premature death from these diseases for every Ugandan citizen.

Physical inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption, and poor dietary habits are identified as major contributors to the rising disease burden. The Maisha Fiti Program commits to investing in health education and initiatives that promote healthier living.

During the launch, Jubilee Health Insurance CEO, Dan Musiime, emphasized the urgency of addressing lifestyle-related illnesses. He stated, “Lifestyle-related illnesses impact not only an individual’s quality of life but also place an enormous burden on families and the nation’s resources. The alarming increase in these illnesses requires immediate attention. Maisha Fiti will encourage our customers to make informed choices about their diet and overall well-being.”

In conjunction with the Maisha Fiti program, Jubilee Health Insurance initiated the “Do Anything For The Steps” campaign to inspire individuals to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. Participants in this campaign are required to purchase JCare Medical Cover from the company’s website, and in return, they will receive a free smartwatch to enroll in the challenge.

The campaign allows individuals to set targets for physical activities within a specific timeframe. Achieving these targets makes participants eligible for up to a 20% discount or cashback on their health insurance premiums.

Caroline Ndungu, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Jubilee Insurance Group, commented on the campaign, saying, “Incentivizing physical activity is crucial in combating the escalating wave of lifestyle-related illnesses. Our company is centered on empowering people to access both preventative and curative care. This campaign will empower individuals to take up physical activities that enhance their well-being and pave the way for healthier and happier communities. Furthermore, the lower premiums will make health insurance more accessible and affordable.”

The “Do Anything For The Steps” campaign stands as the first of its kind in the health insurance space across East Africa, promising to significantly reduce the prevalence of lifestyle-related illnesses while promoting physical and mental health over the one-year campaign period.
