Man allegedly kills ‘client’ over Shs1000

Police in Agago district have arrested Okello Aldo Akech, a 32-year-old resident of Ocoyo Lamero village in Kaket parish, Lapono sub-county, for the alleged murder of Okwera Tarasisto, a 53-year-old resident of Nyer Ikan South village. The incident occurred on October 23 at 2:30 p.m.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by the police, the suspect had repaired the padlock of the victim for a fee of Shs2000. The victim handed over Shs1000 and promised to pay the remaining Shs1000 later.

However, the suspect demanded full payment. Tensions escalated and he took a knife from the victim, leading to a violent altercation. The victim was stabbed on the left side of his rib during the altercation.

Members of the community quickly responded to the scene, capturing the suspect and taking him to the local LC1 Chairperson. Also, efforts were made to transport the injured victim to Kalongo Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries while en route to the medical facility.

As news of the incident spread, an angry mob confronted the suspect, but intervention from the police stationed at Lapono police post prevented any further harm. The authorities have since recovered the knife used in the altercation.

“We strongly condemn such acts of violence and impunity within our community, particularly when directed at the elderly. It is disheartening to witness innocent elderly individuals bearing the brunt of such aggression. We are committed to expeditiously bringing this case to the courts of law to ensure that the suspect faces appropriate consequences,” said the police.
