Excitement was in the air this morning at the Uganda Golf Club, as the Amateurs Open teed off. However, the question on every golfer’s mind was; who would take the bragging rights of day one?

Over one hundred and sixty amateur golfers from Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal, and the hosts- Uganda, took to the greens, and went head-to-head all competing for the coveted crown.

By the end of the day, pre-tournament Godfrey Nsubuga was top of the leaderboard with a score of 65 gross.

Ibrahim Bagalana followed in close-second place with 70 gross, while Peter Tumusiime came in closely in third place with a score 72 gross.

Right from the practice round, the Mehta-bred golfer- Nsubuga, had been in such sensational form, and it was evident that he was a top contender for the highly coveted amateur championship.

“I am keeping calm, I have never won the Uganda Open, but I hope that can change this time around. I am keeping the focus on the top prize,” Nsubuga said.

“Most importantly, as Johnnie Walker, we are looking forward to host everyone at the Hospitality Village for the Big Flavour experience. The experience is perfect for golfers that need to celebrate a great day on the greens, but also perfect to soothe the spirits and help reset those that had a tough day on the course,” she added.
