Kabasweka and Katwiremu are winners of 2023 Johnnie Walker Ladies and Seniors Open

Peace Kabasweka and Steven Katwiremu emerged champions of the Ladies and Seniors Open categories in the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Championship on Saturday. The Ladies Senior winner was Malawian, Roza Mbilizi.

An elated Kabasweka was congratulated with loud cheers and jubilation at the 18th hole of the Uganda Golf Club, Kitante, that is hosting this year’s Open.

Kabasweka carded 221 gross following three days of golf just a stroke better than Iddy Hussein Madina’s 222. The seasoned golfer recorded a 4-under 68 score on Day one, 3 – over 75 on Day Two and 78 on the final round.

“The competition was fierce but I managed to make it at the end of the day. I’d like to thank my caddie, fans, family and sponsors,” said Kabasweka.

Kabasweka won the title on the 18th hole while Katwiremu secured the Seniors title on sudden death ahead of Onyango Matata Godfrey and Bagabo Joseph.
The winners were honoured with well-deserved trophies and Johnnie Walker Green and Black Label Bottles that were handed over by Uganda Breweries Ltd Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo, and the Guest of Honour, Security Minister, Gen. Jim Muhwezi.

Johnnie Walker, the tournament’s title sponsor set-up a Hospitality Village, that was an elevation from the traditional 19th Hole experience.

The 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Championship continues with the Amatuers Open teeing off on Wednesday, climaxing with the Professional category that will run from October 24 to 28.
